Comments:  Lilium lancifolium or Tiger Lily or Lilium tigrinum is a hardy perennial bulbous plant with a rapid, clumping growth habit.  In mid-Summer, Lilium lancifolium produces lovely long-lasting bright orange flowers with black spotted recurving petals in a downward facing.  It has herbaceous, lance-shaped, long, narrow green foliage.  Black bulbils appear at leaf axils and they self-propagate readily after dropping onto the ground.  Tiger Lily can also be propagated from bulb or scale divisions.  It performs best in well-drained, moist, acidic or alkaline soil with some lime added.  Lilium tigrinum is sun-loving but can thrive in a part shade location.  Mass plant for a terrific display in the Summer landscape.  Grow Lilium lancifolium away from other lilies to prevent infection.  It is low maintenance and naturalizes easily.  Lilium tigrinum is very showy and can be invasive.  It is popularly cultivated by many hobbyists.  The Japanese eat the Tiger Lily bulbs as food.  The pollens are said to be poisonous.

USDA Zones:  3-9
