Lycoris chinensis

Comments:  Lycoris chinensis or British Soldier, Golden Hurricane Lily or Golden Spider Lily or St Augustine Lily is a perennial bulbous plant with a vigorous, clumping growth habit.  lt is a native of China.  In late Summer, Lycoris chinensis bears eye-catching rich yellow, 7-petaled, spidery-like blossoms on long naked stems.  The flowers are very much like Lycoris radiata but more beautiful.  Florists are delighted with its long lasting cut flowers. In Spring, British Soldier produces smooth green foliage appears.  Golden Hurricane Lily is easily propagated from bulb divisions, planted shallowly.  It performs best in well-drained soil in a sunny to part shade location.  Mass plant Golden Spider for a splendid display in the border.  St Augustine Lily can also be container cultivated.  In its native habitat it is often found growing in moist, wooded slopes.  Lycoris chinensis can tolerate some drought.  It performs  better at second year.  Golden Spider Lily is a show stopper.
