Comments:  Lycoris squamigera or Magic Lily or Naked Lady or Resurrection Lily or Surprise Lily is a herbaceous bulbous plant with a fast, clumping growth habit.  It is a native of Japan.  In late Summer around mid-August,  Lycoris squamigera produces showy, 6 to 8 fragrant, rose-pink blossoms on each leafless stalk, suddenly springing up from the crown.  The cut flowers make an attractive bouquet.  Lovely smooth foliage appears in Spring and dies back to the ground.    Magic Lily is easily propagated from offsets or bulb divisions.  It thrives best in well-drained, mildly acidic, neutral or mildly alkaline soil in a sunny or shady environment.  Plant in a permanent location as Lycoris squame does not handle transplanting well.  Mark the area where they are planted.  Naked Lily is deer resistant and is low maintenance.  It multiplies fast and have to be divided to prevent overcrowding.  Mass plant Ressurection Lady in the sunny border or grow them in a open woodland setting for a dramatic display.  It can also be container cultivated.   Surprise lily is excellent for naturalizing.   It is a terrific show stopper.

USDA Zones:  4-8
