Comments:  Mentha piperita 'Orange' Mint is a perennial herbal plant with a vigorous growth habit.  It is a showy hybrid.  In mid- Summer, Mentha piperita citrata produces pink blossoms followed later by seeds.  Butterflies, hummingbirds and bees are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms while birds enjoy feasting on the seeds.  Orange Mint is easily propagated from suckers or stem cuttings.  It thrives best in well-drained, moist, acidic to neutral soil in full or part sun.  Mentha piperita citrata is drought tolerant.  It spreads by means of suckering roots.  Grow it in a container or hanging basket to contain its spread.  Orange Mint makes nice ground covers and when brushed, emit a lovely orange scent.  It has medicinal value and the dried or fresh leaves can be made into a herbal tea which tastes like lemonade.  Menta piperita citrata has been traditionally used for the treatment of various ailments including stomach problems, fever and nausea. Excessive doses can cause miscarriage in pregnancy.
