Comments:  Mentha suaveolens 'Variegata' or Pineapple Mint is a herbaceous perennial with a fast spreading growth habit.  It is of hybrid origin with very showy variegated foliage.  In Summer, Mentha suaveolens 'Variegata' produces fragrant spikes of pink or white blossoms, followed later by seeds.  Butterflies and bees are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms.  Mentha suaveolens 'Variegata' is easily propagated from herbaceous stem cuttings or from runners.  Seeds would not come true to parent.  Pineapple Mint thrives best in well-drained rich, moist soil in a sunny environment.  It can tolerate part shade.  Deers would not go near the plant.  To maintain the beautiful foliage variegation, remove all green foliage and spent flowers and pinch tips regularly before appearance of new growth in Spring.  Mass plant Mentha suaveolens 'Variegata' in the border for a terrific display.  Sink container plant into ground to control spread.  Water at base of plant to prevent powdery mildew and mulch to maintain moisture.  Reducing soil moisture helps prevent anthracnose and leaf spot.  Pineapple Mint leaves make delicious desserts, herbal tea and jellies and the dried leaves make excellent pot-pourris for the home, car or office.  It add colors to garnishing.  Well-maintained, Mentha suaveolens 'Variegata' is a delightful eye-catching plant for the garden.  It makes a superb foliage plant in the absence of its flowers

USDA Zones:  5-9
