Origin:  Hybridized by Rien Venweij of the Netherlands
Light:  Sun-part shade

Blooms:  2" diameter, stunning, single, rich royal blue with wine-red eye, in summer
Foliage:  Deciduous
Soil:  Well-drained, peat moss, composted
Water:  Regular
Fertilizer:  As needed
Propagation:  Stem cuttings, air layering, seeds  
Uses:  Borders, hedges, groupings, back of perennial garden
Caution:  Spider mites, aphids,  Japanese beetles
Comments:  Hibiscus syriacus 'Blue Satin' aka ' Marina or Rose of Sharon or Syrian Rose or Althea Rose or Mukuge Huchisu is a gorgeous low-maintenance  shrub that requires pruning in early Spring to promote larger blooms.  Maybe considered invasive as it is a prolific self-seeder.  Plant will releaf in late Spring or early Summer.  Hibiscus syriacus 'Blue Satin' attracts birds, bees and butterflies.  It is an attractive plant for the garden.
