Comments: Cuphea hyssopifolia or False Heather or Mexican Heather
is a lovely tender tropical perennial plant with a low , shrub-like
growth habit. It produces small pretty purple blossoms all year
round. Cuphea hyssopifolia is easily propagated from seeds or from
softwood cuttings and performs well in a sunny to part shade
environment. Mass plant False Heather under shrubs and trees for a
lovely groundcover. It is carefree and not demanding. Cuphea
hyssopifolia looks ideal at the back of a perennial border.
Mexican Heather self sows and grows fast. Bees and butterflies are
magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms of Cuphea hyssopifolia.
Deers would not touch this Mexican beauty. It can be trimmed to
desired shape and size. Cuphea hyssopifolia is an annual in
colder areas. There is also a violet and a white form
growing in Jenny's Garden.
