Physostegia speciosa is a herbaceous perennial with an aggressive spreading growth habit. It is a native of eastern USA and North Carolina. From late Summer to Fall, Physostegia virginiana produces eye-catching pink terminal flowers. The cut flowers make great floral arrangement. It has green smooth foliage. False Dragonhead is easily propagated from seeds, cuttings or rootball divisions. It thrives best in well-drained, moist, acidic to neutral soil in a sunny to part shade environment. Obedient Plant is so named because you can bend the flower which ever way you wish it to. It self sows readily so grow in containers or between concrete slabs to container its spread. Physostegia speciosa would not spread as fast if grown in a drier landscape. Keep Dracocephalum virginianum in check by dividing them every few years. Mass plant Dracocephalum denticulatum for a dramatic display. It is a terrific showstopper.
