Comments: Pieris japonica "Mountain Fire' or Andromeda or Japanese Pieris or Lily of the Valley Shrub is a medium sized evergreen shrub with a slow, upright growth habit. It is a native of Japan, Taiwan and eastern China. In late Winter or early Spring, Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire' produces tassels of red buds in a fountain fashion which open to fragrant white blossoms. It is easily propagated from woody stem cuttings. Japanese Andromeda performs best in well-drained, moist, rich acidic soil in a sunny to full shade location. Protect Japanese Pieris from cold winds and mulch well for the Winter. Deers would not go near it. Lily of the Valley Shrub makes an excellent specimen in the sunny to part shade landscape. Mass plant for a delightful display. The red buds provide Winter interests. Use Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire' as a hedge or as a screen. It looks lovely as a border plant.
