Comments:  Polygonatum odoratum var. thunbergii 'Variegatum' or Convallaria polygonatum or Fragrant Solomon's Seal or Striped Solomon's Seal or Variegated Solomon's Seal or Polygonatum dalcatum or Polygonatum odoratum or Polygonatum officinale is an exquisite perennial with a rhizomatous growth habit.  It is a native of Western Europe eastward to Japan.  In mid-Spring, Polygonatum odoratum var. thunbergii 'Variegatum' produces delicate looking snow-white, bell-shaped blossoms dangling gracefully along arching stems.  The evening fragrant flowers are followed by seeds.  Butterflies and bees are magnetized by its nectar-rich blossoms of Convallaria polygonatum while birds enjoy feasting on the seeds.  Florist are delighted with the long lasting cut flowers.  Fragrant Solomon Seal is easily propagated from seeds or offsets.  Polygonatum odoratum thrives best in a well-drained, moist soil in a lightly shaded location.  Striped Solomon's Seal self-sows and spreads by rhizomes.  Soon it forms a nice patch in the shade garden or in a woodland setting.   Variegated Solomon's Seal is low maintenance.  It can  also tolerate drought conditions.  Use Polygonaturm dalcatum as eye-catching groundcovers.  In the Fall, the beautiful foliage color-change makes Polygonatum officinale a very much sought-after plant.
