Comments:  Pycnanthemum tenuifolium or Narrow-leaved Mountain Mint or Slender Mountain Mint is a herbaceous perennial with a fast, mounding growth habit.  It is a native of United States.  In mid-Summer, Pycnanthemum tenuifolium produces clusters of small, white flowers, attracting butterflies and bees.  Birds enjoy feasting on the seeds and help transport them.  The cut flowers look ideal in floral arrangements and are also used in making wreaths.  Narrow-leaved Mountain Mint has thin, needle-like, very aromatic leaves.  It is easily propagated from seeds.  Slender Mountain Mint thrives best in well-drained, highly acidic, neutral or midly alkaline soil, in a sunny environment.  It is low maintenance and tolerates drought conditions, hence is excellent for xeriscaping.  Pycnanthemum tenuifolium self-sows readily and is excellent for naturalizing in a woodland setting.  Grow them in borders or as a ground cover in dry areas; it quickly forms a nice clump.  The dried leaves can be stored for future use.  Narrow-leaved Mountain Mint has a minty spicy flavor and is great for marinating meat.  Use it to freshen the home, laundry or for a soothing bath.  Narrow-leaved Mountain Mint is also a moth repellent.
The plant is a useful herb to the American Indians who used in herbal tea as a tonic drink or for the treatment of various ailments including headaches and stomachaches and gum disease.  Pycnanthemeum tenuifolium is a useful herb to have in the garden.

USDA Zones:  5-10
