Blooms:  3" across, very fragrant, double, gold flower buds opens to medium yellow and ages to cream, blooms on new wood, mid-Spring
Foliage:  Deciduous, glossy, green turns yellow in the Fall, oval, compound
Soil: Well-drained, sandy, clayey, loamy, normal-moist
Water:  Regular-moderate
Uses:  Hedge, accent, mass plant, screening
Propagation:  Suckering/ cuttings

Comments:  Rosa 'J P Connell' or Nearly Thornless Shrub Rose is a showy compact, multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a suckering, upright  mounding growth habit.  It is of hybrid origin, by hybridizer, Svejda, 1986.  From mid-Spring, Rosa J P Connell produces very fragrant double, medium yellow blossoms appearing on new wood and repeat blooms later in the season.  It has glossy green leaves borne on nearly thornless stems Rosa J P Connell can be propagated from suckers or cuttings.  It thrives best in well-drained, sandy, clayey, loamy, normal to moist soil in a sunny environment  Rosa J P Connell is hardy.  Prune in late Winter to promote new growth and blooms.  Mass plant Rosa J P Connel as hedges or as an accent plant.  It makes a lovely privacy screen.  Rosa J P Connell is a splendid long-lived show piece.
