Comments:  Rosa Veilchenblau Climbing Rose or Bleu Violet or Blue Rambler or Blue Rosalie or The Blue Rose or Violet Blue is a very old hardy hybrid multiflora rose with a vigorous rambling growth habit.   Its hybridizer was Schmidt of Germany in 1909.  Its parents are Rosa hybrid 'Crimson Pirate' x Rosa 'Souvenir de Brod.  In mid-Spring, Rosa Veilchenblau produces prolific clusters of purple buds open to 20 to 30 small, intense orange-scented, cupped, semi-double flowers with white flecks and stripes.  Masses of flowers appear on long graceful canes.  The cut flowers of The Blue Rose make a lovely bouquet while the dried flowers are great for potpourris.  The arching canes can be trained to wrap around an arbor, trellis, pergola or pillar.  Bleu Violet Rose is easily propagated from budding, grafting or stem cuttings.  It thrives best in well-drained, moist, composed soil in morning sun and afternoon shade.  Blue Rambler Rose is thornless and is save to grow around children or foot traffic.  Grow one against a wall for a terrific show.  Rosa 'Veilcanblau' is the closest of blue roses.  It is an exquisite show stopper.

Bleu Violet Rose is the receipent of the 1993 Award .of Garden Merit (AGM) by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS)
