Ruellia humilis

Propagation:  Seeds (Sow directly onto ground in Fall)

Comments:  Ruellia humilis or Fringeleaf Wild Petunia or Hairy Wild Petunia is a native  ornamental perennial with a fast spreading growing habit.  In mid-Summer it produces blue-lavender blossoms followed later by seeds.  The flowers appear at night lasting only one day.  Bees and moth are attracted to the flowers.  Ruellia humilis is easily propagated from seeds.  It thrives well in most soil in full or part sun.  Fringedleaf Wild Petunia tolerates drought conditions and is carefree.  Mass plant Hairy Wild Petunia as lovely groundcovers and it will quickly form a showy carpet.  Use Ruellia humilis in borders, on slopes or hanging baskets, allowing them to cascade down the sides for an eye-catching effect.   Fringeleaf Wild Petunia makes excellent plants for the rock garden.  It is popularly cultivated by many hobbyists for its ease of growth and beauty.
