Comments:  Salvia guaranitica 'Black and Blue' or Blue Anise Sage or Brazilian Sage is a perennial with a moderate growth habit.  It is a showy hybrid.  From mid-Spring till frost, Salvia guaranitica 'Black and Blue' repeatedly produces showy spikes of blue and black tubular blossoms followed later by seeds.  Hummingbirds, butterflies and bees are magnetized by its nectar-rich blossoms.  Blue Anise Sage has lovely aromatic lime green foliage, contrasting well with the dark blue flowers.  It is easily propagated from softwood cuttings or rootball divisions; seeds however would not come true to parent.  Brazilian Sage thrives best in well-drained mildly acidic, neutral soil in a sunny environment.  It tolerates drought conditions when established.  Mass plant Salvia guaranitica 'Black and Blue' in the perennial bed for a striking display.  It can also be container cultivated.  Blue Anise makes great rock garden plants.  It self sows readily and soon forms a nice clump.  Brazilian Sage is an easy plant for the Summer garden.  It attracts a lot of foot traffic.

USDA Zones:  7-11
