Comments:
Salvia argentea or Silver Sage is a biennial or short-lived perennial
plant with a fast, clumping, low growth habit. It is a native of the
Mediterraneans and is a member of the Mint family. In late Spring or early
Summer, Salvia argentea produces white flowers, followed later by
seeds. Hummingbirds, bees and butterflies are magnetized by the nectar-rich flowers. White Sage has interesting deciduous, fuzzy, basal rosette leaves which appear silver initially then
turns to gray-green after flowering. Salvia argentea is easily
propagated from seeds or divisions. It performs best in
well-drained, acidic to alkaline soil in a sunny environment. White
Sage is low maintenance and tolerates drought, hence great for
xeriscaping. Salvia argentea loves heat and humidity. It makes an
exquisite foliage plant. Its could be a perennial if spent flowers are
deadheaded after flowering. Mass plant for a terrific visual effect in raised beds or
border; this prevents stem rot in Winter. White Sage looks pleasing in
rock gardens or grow them under taller shrubs or trees as lovely groundcovers. Grow in raised bed to prevent rot in Winter. Plant along
walkways for a pleasing close-up view. This wooly plant is adorable and
it makes you want to cuddle it. In the Fall at a time when most perennials have been leveled to the ground by frost, Salvia argentea is a welcoming sight when the gray-green foliage reverts back to silver. White Sage is a fabulous show stopper in the Summer and Fall landscape
