Bees and butterflies are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms of Black Elder 'Madonna' while the birds have a fiesta with the black round fruits. Bourtree is easily propagated from softwood or hardwood cuttings. It performs best in full sun to part shade. Elderberry 'Madonna' thrives best in well-drained, moist, acidic, neutral or alkaline soil in a sunny to part shade environment. It is low maintenance. Elderberry is highly sought by avid gardeners for its absolutely spectacular foliage. Grow this eye-catching shrub in a woodland setting. European Elder is an excellent specimen shrub or as a focal point. Mass plant for a stunning looking hedge. Prune Sambucus nigra 'Madonna' for desired size and shape.
