It is a native of South America. In mid-Spring, Stromanthe sanguinea 'Triostar' produces reddish-pink blossoms. It has exquisite fans of variegated smooth, shiny foliage with green, cream and pink coloration; it has maroon undersides. Stromanthe sanguinea 'Tricolor' is easily propagated from rhizomatous rootball divisions. It performs best in well-drained, moist, highly acidic to neutral soil, in a filtered shade or light shade location. Stromanthe sanguinea 'Triostar' is hardy to 27 degrees Fahrenheit. Mulch well for the Winter and protect from draft. Fertilize with half strength general purpose fertilizer. Trim back in Spring before new growth appears.
