Comments: Tolmiea mensiezii 'Taff's Gold' or Pick-a-back or Variegated Piggyback Plant, Youth-on-age or Tomiea Goldsplash' is a herbaceous vivaparous perennial with a running, mat-forming growth habit. In late Spring, it produces small, nodding, tubular, pale green blossoms, followed later by seeds. Tolmiea mensiezii 'Taff's Gold' has showy, medium to dark green foliage mottled with cream and gold, borne on 4" long stems. Every leaf reproduces an unique piggyback plantlet on top of its petiole, which is an exact reproduction of itself. Plantlets are also produced along runners. Pick-a-vack Plant is easily propagated from seeds,
leaf cuttings, rootball divisions or runners. It thrives best in well-drained, moist soil in a part to full shade environment. Variegated Piggyback Plant loves high humidity and enjoys being misted on hot Summer days or place potted plant on wet pebbles in tray filled with water. Pinch to control legginess. Tolmiea mensiezii 'Taff's Gold' makes a wonderful houseplant. Mass plant for an exquisite groundcover under taller plants. Youth-on-age spreads by means of runners so provide lots of room for it to grow. It can also be grown in a wide container and repotted every few years to prevent overcrowding.
