Comments: Trillium erectum or Purple Trillium or Red Robin or Stinking Benjamin or Trinity Flower or Wakerobin or Woodlily is a perennial plant. It is a native to United States. In mid-Spring, Trillium erectum does have a foul smell if you smell it real close , pale green, white, scarlet, pale pink blossoms, hence the common name, Stinking Benjamin. Carrion flies are the main pollinators. Trillium erectum plant is very interesting; its herbaceous, pointed-tipped foliage is made up of 3, the flower has 3 petals with 3 sepals, hence its common name, Trinity Flower. Purple Trillium propagates easily from offsets or seeds which have to be sown as soon as possible as they have short shelf life. Seed propagation usually takes 2 years to germinated and another 5 years to bloom. Wakerobin thrives best in moist, rich, neutral to acidic pH, soil in a shady location. It has no known insect or disease problems. Woodlily is easy and does not demand much attention. Mass plant Red Robin in a woodland setting for a splendid display. Trinity Flower makes excellent foliage plants in the shade garden. Trillium erectum is very showy and attracts a lot of attention.
