Family:  Nyctaginaceae

Blooms:  Various shades of yellowish gold, pinkish gold and bronzy gold papery bracts surrounding true flowers, year-round.
Foliage:   Evergreen
Soil:  Sandy loam

Water:  Regular deep watering
Fertilizer:  Bi-weekly with a balanced soluble fertilizer during growth season
Propagation:  Stem cuttings, mid-winter-early spring
Insects:  Susceptible to mealy bugs and aphids
Uses:  Container, groundcover, screening, accent, hanging basket, xeriscaping
Caution:  Long sharp spines on vines
Other Useful Information:  Bougainvillea 'California Gold' or Paper Flower  is a brilliant-looking, ever-blooming  care-free tropical perennial vine that can be trained as a shrub or grown as a beautiful climber on trellis or simply let it climb up a tree and let the branches cascade down beautifully. Be cautious when transfering to ground as pIant does not like to be moved.   Bougainvillea 'California Gold' is more frost sensitive than other red cultivars.  It attracts birds, bees and butterflies especially the Zebra Longtail butterflies and Giant Swallowtail butterflies feed on the nectar.  Protect from frost.  Do a hard prune before moving indoors.
