Origin:  Brazil
Family:  Nyctaginaceae

Light:  Full sun
Height:  Can reach up to 20'
Spread:  About 8'
Blooms:  Deep purple, year-round.  Papery bracts surrounding true flowers
Foliage:   Deep green
Soil:  Sandy loam

Water:  Let dry between watering
Fertilizer:  Bi-weekly with a balanced soluble fertilizer during growth season
Propagation:  Stem cuttings
Insects:  Susceptible to mealy bugs and aphids
Uses:  Container, groundcover, screening, accent, hanging basket, xeriscaping, patio, deck 
Caution:  Long sharp spines on vines
Comments:  Bougainvillea 'Purple Queen' or Paper Flower plant is a brilliant looking care-free tropical perennial vine that can be trained as a shrub or grown as a beautiful climber on trellis or simply let it climb up a tree.  It is fast growing, disease resistant and it attracts birds, bees and butterflies especially the Zebra Longtail butterflies and Giant Swallowtail butterflies feed on the nectar.  Protect from frost.  Do a hard prune before moving indoors.
