Comments:  Weigela florida 'Wine and Roses' or Old Fashioned Weigela is a showy deciduous shrub with an arching, spreading growth habit.  It is of hybrid origin by hybridizer Geers (1997).  In early Spring, Weigela florida 'Wine and Roses' produces fuschia, bell-shaped blossoms, borne on old growth.  Hummingbirds and butterflies are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms.  The cut flowers make a lovely bouquet.  Old Fashioned Weigela has stunning bronze foliage, hence makes an excellent foliage plant.  It is easily propagated from hardwood cuttings and thrives best in well-drained, average to rich highly acidic to neutral soil in a sunny environment.  Weigela florida 'Wine and Roses' is low maintenance.  It can be pruned to maintain size and shape and promote repeat bloosm.  Use Old Fashioned Weigela in a mixed shrub border for a showy display.
