Comments:  Weigela florida 'Variegata' or Old Fashioed Weigela is a deciduous shrub with an arching, compact growth habit.  It is a native of Japan.  From late Spring to Fall, Weigela florida 'Variegata' produces dense clusters of 3-toned colors of white to pale pink with red throat, bell-shaped blossoms, borne on old growth.  Hummingbirds and butterflies are magnetized by the nectar-rich blossoms.  The cut flowers make a lovely bouquet.  Old Fashioned Weigela has attractive variegated oval-shaped foliage.  It is easily propagated from cuttings and thrives best in well-drained, average to rich highly acidic soil in a sunny or part shade environment.  Weigela florida 'Variegata' is low maintenance and tolerates drought condition.  It can be pruned to desired size and shape after flowering season is over.  Use Old Fashioned Weigela as a specimen plant or as a focal point a showy display.  Mass plant for an gorgeous hedge.  It is a terrific showstopper.
