Origin:  Native to swamps and welands from Louisiana north-southeastern Missouri and southern Illinois
Family: 
Iridaceae
Light:  Full Sun-part shade/ light shade
Height: 2-3' 
Spread:  1-2'
Blooms:  Showy, brick-colored, beardless, crestless, on 2-3' tall scapes,  mid-Spring
Foliage:    Bright green, sword-shaped
Soil:  Keep moist consistently, medium wet to wet
Water:  Abundant
Insects/Diseases:  Susceptible to Iris fulva mosaic potyvirus
Uses: Pond, bog garden, water garden, moist low spot areas
Propagation:  Seeds, tuber division
Caution:  Pollen may stain clothing
Comments:  Iris fulva Ker-Gawl. or Copper Iris is a beautiful herbaceous perennial that attracts hummingbirds, bees and butterflies.  This low-maintenance plant is suitable for the bog garden.  They look lovely when grown in masses in the wet garden.  Iris fulva Ker-Gawl can be grown in containers up to 6" standing water.  Protect plants from frost.
