Comments: Ledebouris socialis or Silver Squill or Violet Squill or
Scilla socialis or Scilla violacea is an attractive small
perennial bulb plant. It has a swollen bulb that is rich purple in
color. Violet Squill is a vigorous grower and produces a thick
cluster of bulbils. These bulblets are easily removed from the
mother plant and propagated, making sure the bulbs stay above the soil. Give Scilla socialis space to grow
and report them as they get too crowded. I love Scilla
violacea for their interesting foliage. What an unusal great
little plant to have for its beauty, drought tolerance and low-maintenance. Silver Squill makes an attractive
container plant for the patio or as an indoor plant.. Grow them in masses for their long lasting dainty
blooms. Protect them from frost.
