Origin:  South Africa-Zimbabwe, Eastern Cape Province, South Cape Provice
Light:  Light shade

Blooms: Tubular spikes of orange or yellow, flowers late Spring
Foliage:  Flesh, light-gray green, stiff, spotted with toothed edges, stemless rosette
Soil:  Poor
Water:  Little-regular., dought tolerant when established

Caution:  Plant has sharp edges
Comments:  Aloe barbadensis or Aloe indica or Aloe Vera or Aloe Barbados or Curacau Aloe or Aloe lanzae or Gawarpaltra or Ghirita or Indian Alces or Kumari or Lu Hui is a tender tropical succulent that thrives well in poor soil.  It is a salt-tolerant and carefree fast-growing plant.  Butterflies love this plant and so do hummingbirds as they love to suck the nectar from the flowers.  Aloe Vera  is a first aid plant for the home.  It can be eaisly grown in containers.  Aloe barbadensis is a spreading plant and it produces many offsets close to the mother plant. Protect this succulent from frost.  Aloe barbadensis is a very useful plant to have.  The fresh leaves at the lowest base of the plant can be used to make a blended health drink.  It is also popularly used for the treatment of skin burns, dry skin and problem skin. I have personally used it to treat ant bites and obtain relief from it.  I cut open the leave and apply the gel on the affected area.  Aloe Vera is also well-known in the production of beauty aid and hair products  Aloe Barbados is an excellent oxygen producing plant for the home.  This It is a butterfly and hummingbird attractant so easy to grow.   Aloe Vera  makes an excellent air purification plant for the home.
