Origin: Native to Northern Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, Southern Brazil
Light: Bright, indirect sun
Height: 2-3'
Spread: 2-4'
Blooms: Pink on long spike
Foliage: Attractive, bluish-green, arching, strap-shaped, spiney margins and
sharp tips, on erect rosette
Soil: Well-drained, sandy, gravelly, neutral-mildly acidic

Uses: Xeriscaping, border, desert garden, container, masses
Comments: Aechmea disticantha or Bromeliad is a beautiful funnel-shaped monocarpic plant
and is quite a show-stopper with its stately beautiful bloom. However,
Bromeliad
plant dies after putting out a long-lasting beautiful bloom, replaced by an
offset. Aechmea disticantha produces a white fleshy cylindrical-shaped wooly
berry which can be easily germinated in orchid potting mix. When grown in
masses, Bromeliad plants look lovely in the shady xeriscaping landscape.
